Meeting & Field Trip: Fiber Arts Fiesta in Vista

  • Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum 2040 North Santa Fe Avenue Vista, CA, 92083 (map)

NOTE: LOCATION & TIME CHANGE

Because the Guild will have a sales and demo booth at the 2025 Fiber Arts Fiesta at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum (AGSEM) on Saturday and Sunday (5/3 & 4), the typical 1st Sunday Guild meeting has been moved from Encinitas to the Board Room at the AGSEM in Vista.

Parking at the venue is free. Tell the people at check in that you are with the MWBGB booth and you will NOT need to pay the entrance fee on Saturday or Sunday. Wear a name tag if you have one.

The Museum has generously offered their Board Room for a short Board/general meeting at 11:00am. Guild members are encouraged to come and stay after the meeting to experience the fun Fiber Arts Fiesta activities (10am-4pm) — Vendors, Demonstrations, Food, and Music!

Information about selling and/or demonstrating in the Guild booth on Saturday and/or Sunday is on the Opportunities webpage. All participants are responsible for their own sales and picking up their sale items or making arrangements for pick-up at the end of the event.

If you have done the online entry process for the SD County Fair Home Arts & Hobbies competition, you can bring your pieces for the group delivery to Grace Swanson at the May Guild meeting or leave it in the Guild booth either Saturday or Sunday during the Festival. She has generously offered to take our entries only if they are BOXED (NO SHOPPING BAGS -- MUST BE IN BOX WITH YOUR NAME OUTSIDE and your ENTRY FORM INSIDE). The deadline for online submission is April 30th, 2025, by 8pm. Here is the link if you have not done that already: https://www.sdfair.com/p/participate/entry/home-arts/home-arts-decorative-arts.

No Potluck — Food available for purchase at AGSEM

The Fiber Arts Fiesta is hosted by the Palomar Handweavers and Spinners Guild. Be sure to tour the antique looms in the weavers' barn and many more onsite exhibits (see below). The Fiber Arts Fiesta takes place outdoors. Most of the booths will be set up on a lawn that is uneven in places. Shoes suitable for walking and a hat are suggested.

AGSEM will be open all weekend, so you can see examples of mechanical ingenuity and crafts associated with the early days of the American farm and rural community; the  Blacksmith & Wheelwright Shop, Short Track Railroad exhibit, and the Clock & Watch Museum will be open.

Due to connectivity issues, a ZOOM meeting option will not be available for this meeting.
