MEETING DAY CHANGE TO SECOND SUNDAY

Due to a schedule conflict at the Heritage Museum, we are changing the October meeting to Sunday, October 13.

Members and guests are welcome to join us at the San Dieguito Heritage Museum at Heritage Ranch (450 Quail Gardens Dr. Encinitas, CA, 92024; turn onto Ecke Ranch Rd. to access driveway). We meet outdoors under a covered patio, so please dress accordingly. We look forward to being with you all to find out what you’ve been up to and discuss and receive feedback on Guild activities.

There will be a round-table show and share with announcements from fellow members, and the Board will share pertinent topics from the earlier Board meeting, if any. We encourage you to bring finished projects and/or your works-in-progress. Also, if you have a problem piece, there may be fellow members who can brainstorm ideas that will help you.

We’ll also enjoy visiting with each other during the potluck lunch prior to the mini-workshop. There is electricity for crockpots, but no kitchen facilities.

If you have submitted your entry form online for the California Gourd Society Southern California Competition, you can bring your boxed gourd art, including a copy of your entry form, to the October 13 Guild meeting and Debra Zimmerman will deliver your pieces. Mailed entries will be accepted and must arrive by October 18, 2024. Rules and Entry details: https://www.californiagourdsociety.com/southern-california-gourd-art-competitions . Competition viewing will be on October 26 in the Los Angeles area.

Following these activities, Carol Lang will teach how to make a coiled basket using newspaper. She will supply newspaper, but bring the Sunday comics if you want more color. Tools: 1) either a flat edge screwdriver, a basket packing tool or a bone paper folder; 2) clothespins or clamps; 3) scissors; 4) white glue; 5) measuring tool; 6) Optional: heat gun to quicken drying. Carol will also have all these items available to use. There is a small fee for those interested in taking the mini-workshop.

Those of you who wish to learn more about Guild business are welcome to join the Board meeting that will take place before the Noon members’ meeting at 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage Museum.

For those who cannot attend the meeting in person, an email with a Zoom option will be sent to current members the week before meeting (not an option for mini-workshop portion of meeting.)
